Design Haus | Workspace Inspiration

#Workspaceinspo: A popular hashtag on social media that I take full advantage of. Seeing different workspaces has inspired me to enhance my own. Once I upgraded my space, I noticed the direct effect it had on my creativity and productivity. So here are some short, simple tips for when you decide to design your own:

  1. Get on pinterest! Get inspired by other peoples work. This does not mean replicate every single detail, but expose yourself to creativity and new ideas. Doing so will unlock the part of your brain that will help guide you in designing a space that works best for you.
  2. Choose a room, corner, or space that gets a lot of natural light! If you are anything like me,  getting a daily dose of vitamin D is just as crucial as that morning cup of coffee. AND I LOVE COFFEE. I won't bore you with a list of all of the health benefits of sun exposure, just know that it is key to productivity and so necessary.
  3. All you need are the 2 C's: Craigslist and Chalk paint. I am obsessed with DIY's and repurposing furniture, and 75% of my projects would not have been possible without these 2. Chalk paint can help you transform pieces and is the easiest thing to make and use (see DIY Chalk paint recipe below). There's something about creating something out of nothing and making something with your own 2 hands. It's a feeling that you can't get from buying something already made.  These side projects have helped me grow creatively and even though it could be time consuming (and I could use about 10 more hours in a day) it's a great outlet.. And if that isn't reason enough for you, think about the environment. Repurposing and reusing helps the environment by reducing the amount of waste that we put into landfills. The more we repurpose, the less goes to landfills and the lower the demand for producing more of {fill in the blank} in a world where we already have more than enough {fill in the blank}.  It's a win-win situation. And if that still isn't reason enough for you, think of all the money you could save $$$.
  4. Choose a color scheme that speaks to your soul. Sounds cliche, but everybody has those colors that soothe them or makes them feel at home. For me it's usually neutrals, but the touch of sky blue and rose pink/copper tones added an element of color and excitement to my workspace.

A lot of great ideas and inspiration can come from a great work environment. So find your sunny corner, download Pinterest, don't be afraid to shop on craigslist, and paint away!

DIY Chalk Paint Recipe:

Mix:  2 Tablespoons Calcium carbonate powder and 1 TBL Water

Mix well into 1 cup of latex paint (paint without primer works best)

This sewing machine table, chair, and kenmore was a great craigslist  find. I paid $35 for the combo and I all I had to do was slab on some chalk paint,  youtube some "how to" videos so I could learn how to use this old Kenmore, and the rest is history. #youtubeUniversity

When I'm not putting my old Kenmore to use, I'm sketching or doing computer work on the sewing machine table. Having fabric swatches right in front of me makes it easier to match a fabric to a sketch. And it just looks pretty:) I thrifted the frame, painted it, stapled some rope across, and hung the fabric using cute little mini clips I found at target.

Pretty little rose gold basket that I bought from Target. Not really necessary, but I can't help myself when it comes to rose gold.
